Plot

Remake of the 1958 horror sci-fi about a deadly blob which is the spawn of a secret government germ warfare project which consumes everyone in its path. Teenagers try in vain to warn the townsfolk, who refuse to take them seriously, while government agents try to cover up the evidence and confine the creature.

Trivia

• The 1988 remake of The Blob was shot partially in the small South Louisiana town of Abbeville (population 12.000), located around fifty miles from the Gulf of Mexico. In the film, the city is called Arborville, a small ski resort town that relies on tourism, and the location is Northern California.

• Two minor roles were played by Playboy Playmates. Vicki De Soto was played by Erika Eleniak (July 1989) and Susie was played by Julie McCullough (February 1986). 

• Kevin Dillon plays Brian Flagg; the demonic Randall Flagg (personal statement: Ugh!) appeared in several novels by Stephen King, making his first appearance in THE STAND.

• Shawnee Smith (“Meg Penny”) was once asked whether or not the producers remembered to heat the sewer-water she plunged into while fleeing the Blob. Chuckling, she answered, “Well, they TRIED.”

• Shawnee still gets recognized by fans as Meg Penny and loves it.
